We HAD to get back to Iowa to see baby Nora and family over the weekend--they’re all doing extremely well--we alternated between sleepy baby snuggles and toddler ACTION (mostly TRAINZZZ!), such a fun weekend... Speaking of Trains...as you may have noticed, I have been on the Clear Your Clutter Train lately--and have more to share today! Here’s what we’ve been talking about the last few weeks: Today, I want to highlight: The Connection Between Your Clutter And Your Health First, take just one minute and notice this for yourself by closing your eyes...imagine your home’s biggest clutter hotspot and then immediately notice how you feel. You don’t even have to be right in front of it, just thinking about the chaos can create physical and emotional stress. It’s always there running like an open app in the background. We’ve become masterful at ignoring it--managing the stress like a low-grade fever--always simmering... If you recall from the Bagua: Health is in THE CENTER of the map--and truly, if your health is compromised, then the rest of your life will probably not be running optimally, either. Good Health is EVERYTHING!
And, (if you’re the hard facts/data-type person) researchers at UCLA’s Center on Everyday Lives and Families (CELF) discovered the same thing when they explored the relationship between 32 California families and the objects in their homes. The resulting book, “Life at Home in The Twenty-First Century,” is a look at how Americans use the space in their homes and interact with the things they accumulate. The stress created by chaotic/stagnant spaces is very real--the resulting elevated cortisol levels in turn decrease our ability to sleep well, and digest our food properly. And, if that isn’t enough, The American Institute of Stress (Wait, we have an institute for American Stress, REALLY?????) reports that stress is responsible for between 75-90% of ALL diseases. So, YES(!) you can make a HUGE impact on your health by chipping away at the clutter and reducing your stress--it’s TOTALLY possible! Clutter Clearing can be done all at once or in stages: box by box, shelf by shelf, room by room, but it IS possible to clear the energy in your home and improve your STRESS and your HEALTH by letting go.
