The “Get Organized” Season is in full swing! I talked with several clients and potential clients last week who are feeling the ‘Urge to Purge’ now that their kids are back in school and there’s time to get a major project completed before the holidays arrive. Are you feeling it too? I thought you might be interested in a design project I finished last month--maybe you have this situation in your home, too. I had the opportunity to work with Madison Property Management, designing a Model Studio Apartment for their brand new Galaxie Luxury Apartments on the east side of Madison with gorgeous views of the Capitol and the lakes! This space was an exciting challenge--larger than most 1 or 2 bedroom apartments in square footage but ALL ONE BIG ROOM. The project involved using furniture that MPM already had in storage, adding a few pieces and arranging things so this huge ‘dance hall’ of a room felt like living space. A place where a person could sleep, relax, get some work done, eat and entertain. So, we got creative :) We used a very cool cardboard system to build a wall for a little bedroom--yep, there’s a bed and dresser back there! Because NO ONE sleeps well out in the middle of a huge room with lots of windows--sleep’s important (!) and to sleep well, you need to feel safe, secure and cozy. Next, we used a big rug and furniture arrangement to create a living room. The rug defines the space and the back of the chair suggests the end of the living room. The TV is across from the sofa offering a place to relax and/or entertain. The desk occupies the far corner of the space--a little out of the way for concentration but still with the ability to see out the windows--there will be a GARDEN out on the terrace next year! The hanging light defines the space for the dining area. The table and chairs are directly under the light and the kitchen is just around the corner. Remember this is a model unit, no one is actually LIVING there! However, it suggests living spaces and by using furniture arrangement, rugs, lighting and cardboard :) we were able to give potential residents an idea of how they might use this space to live. Could these principles of furniture arrangement, rug and lighting placement also help you think about your space--especially if you have BIG living spaces--in a new way? If so, I would LOVE to hear from you! Next Wednesday, September 28, is a BIG day for us at Jane Antonovich Designs!
Hope you have a wonderful week! Lots of Love, XO SUCCESS STORY: “Jane, You’re a Sorceress! What a go-go weekend road tripping to Iowa with daughter + baby Harper to visit other daughter + baby Jude. We finally threw them in the tub to scrub them up on Saturday night. Gah! So cute--can’t believe how lucky I am! And then home on Sunday, I had a dream about Sylvester Stallone...WEIRD, huh? In the dream, Bob (lovely husband) and I were traveling and kept running into him--just nodding “Hello”. Then we were in Fond Du Lac (also weird) and ran into him again on a street corner... He invited us to come over to see his home. So we did and it turned out that it was a tourist “attraction”. There was a line of people going in and exiting out the other side. Of course, we got to jump the line with him ushering us right up to the front. Once inside, we were faced with a HUGE curved, white cement staircase with lots of strangely shaped steps and metal bars. To go up the stairs, you had to squeeze and duck and inch your way up. The bars were tight. Bob and Sylvester were ahead of me, getting through seemingly with no problem--but for me it was TOO MUCH! It made my stomach hurt and I had to stop and go back--I just couldn’t do it! Outside, I was sitting on the front steps and the two of them came over to see what happened… I started telling Sylvester that his Feng Shui was more like F$%#ed Shui because (And here’s the takeaway)... When the front door is blocked in ANY WAY--with boxes, unused old coats and shoes, piles of stuff, bags, old things high on the closet shelf, OR tight bars and weird steps or any other architectural block, like a wall too close to the door, then not only is it nearly impossible for YOU to get in, but any other energy, especially CAREER energy cannot find it’s way in either. Annnnnnd here’s what you can do about it: Step 1: Clear it all out, Step 2: Clean (maybe paint!) Step 3: Edit--Only keep the things you LOVE or need. The rest can just go--there are others in the community that will LOVE your cast-offs, I promise. Be RUTHLESS--this is where the magic happens! Step 4: Reasses your storage for the “keepers”. What’s the best way to contain these items? Step 5: Put everything away Step 6: Happy Dance! You did it--Please send me a message, I would love to celebrate with you! Mirrors are a very potent Feng Shui “cure” and often help with the flow by the front door. So try one on a wall as you enter your home and notice the difference in your space. The importance of your front entrance (inside and out) cannot be underestimated! Not only does it represent Career energy but it’s EVERYTHING flows in, your money, your health and your relationships. Please let me know if you would like an assessment of your entryway, I would love to work with you! Oh, and Sylvester? He asked If I would help him figure out his front entry “situation”. Fond Du Lac must be his weekend home ;) cuz I think he lives in California. I’ll keep you posted, I might just send a little FaceBook message to see if he needs some assistance... “Om For Your Home--3 Surprising Secrets to Supercharge Your Home So You Have the inspiration and Energy to Live the Life You've Always Dreamed” A HUGE welcome to our new subscribers from the Higher Brain Learning Meet-Up and the Teachers (I hope you’ve had a wonderful start to the year!!!!) from the Middleton School District--we’re so happy you’ve joined us! Not only did I have the “back-to-school” feeling when I walked into Middleton High School to give a talk last Tuesday, but I’m seeing and feeling it everywhere! There’s a renewed sense of urgency to get things in order--straightened up and cleared out as the fall season kicks in. Are you feeling it too? I heard from two subscribers who were going to spend part of their long weekend on a basement clean-out (How did it go, Laurie?) and general clearing out from remodeling (How’s it feeling, Kelly?). I love hearing your success stories so I can celebrate with you, too! Some of you know that I love to rollerblade and this summer I’ve been getting out at least 2-3 times a week. I realize that I may be the last rollerblader on the planet :) but I’m having fun, getting a big dose of fresh air in the morning and saying hello to the regular walkers and bikers on the path. Today while I was skating, I saw a squirrel with a big nut in his mouth and I actually thought, “I hope his nest is ready for all of the new nuts…” Now you know how into my work I am (and just a teeny bit over-the-edge, too:) if I’m wondering about how cluttered or uncluttered a squirrel nest is… Let’s skip over the weird squirrel references and take a moment to assess…
How is it at your place? Could you use some laser focus in one area of your home or another? I suggested to someone the other day that she set aside just 30 minutes of focused time and keep the decluttering project small enough so that it could ALL be accomplished in that time period. She reported back, “ I now have a MUCH better looking bookshelf...Thank You! I had no idea that I could get anything done in 30 minutes. And now the library is getting 2 bags of books. It makes me very happy.” Maybe that’s all the time you have, too. Or maybe you only have 15 minutes. Even spending this short amount of time on a consistent basis can yield AMAZINGLY wonderful results. Try it and let me know. ALSO, look for an EXCITING opportunity coming to your inbox on Friday...a chance for us to unite and handle that clutter you’ve been meaning to get to! Also, please join me for a FREE EVENT at the American Family Dreambank on September 28, 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm. I will be presenting: “Om For Your Home--3 Surprising Secrets to Supercharge Your Home So You Have the inspiration and Energy to Live the Life You've Always Dreamed” REGISTER HERE I would love to have you join me for either (or BOTH!) of them! Lots of Love, XOXO Jane I have TWO pieces of Big News... First, I got a NEW CAR last week! I’ve been slogging around in the old silver Camry for 10 years. It was time. I LOVE it!!!! Bob (really, really lovely husband + mechanic) found it, bought it, and did practically everything but wrap it up in a big red bow! It’s the cutest little car EVER--a GORGEOUS bright yellow--you will be able to see me wherever I am--give me a wave and a “beep-beep”--can’t wait to show you! Second, I have been asked to speak at the Madison Women’s Expo this year!!! I’m SUPER excited and sooooooo honored. Gotta LOVE Brava magazine (the sponsor)--they are all about sisterhood and FUN! The Expo is at the Alliant Energy Center and I’ll be on the DreamBank Stage, with my signature talk: “Om for Your Home” The talk is scheduled for Saturday, November 19th at 1pm, but the WOMEN’S EXPO is all day Saturday and Sunday with tons of inspiration, excitement and fun. PLEASE mark your calendars, I would LOVE to see you there! Purchase tickets HERE The cost of clutter to our lives is something we are not always aware of... My PASSION is to help you explore this relationship between your home (or office) and your well-being. Whether it’s clutter-clearing or intentional design...what an exciting way to move your life forward. Could I ask you a favor? As well as being a regular speaker at the DreamBank, I’ve also been speaking at Professional Meetings, Networking Events, Meet-up groups and Women’s Boutiques. I have several talks ready to present: As I said, I am ON A MISSION to get this powerful message out to the world and bring awareness to as many people as possible! If you have a connection or could make an introduction for me to schedule a talk with a group you are involved with--a Church, Spiritual Center, Meeting w/speaker series or a group of friends who get together for inspiration--please let me know, would you? (Plus, I have a little something for you *wink-wink*) I hope you’re having a good week!
