Before & After--America's 1st Ever Feng Shui-ed Man Cave

Hello Beautiful!
Picture
I’ve been out running around because…

We have FIVE projects wrapping up these past 2 weeks--all sorts of beautiful upgrades--a kitchen, a bathroom, a master bedroom, family room and living room. The new fresh energy in these spaces is incredible--can’t wait to share them with you!

And speaking of sharing--I realized that it’s been awhile since I gave you a “Before & After” peek into one of our Feng Shui transformations, so, today’s the day--I know, it’s your favorite :)

When I got the call last summer (early June) to upgrade a past client’s Lower Level space (Game Room, Bar, TV Room, Bedroom and Bathroom--AKA Man Cave)...

Julie said, “Don (hubby) wants to work with you to improve the Man Cave (I didn’t even know about the Man Cave, had never been downstairs). Can you Feng Shui a space like that? Oh, and there’s a framed piece of UFC mat with a bit of blood on it from a famous fight--it has to stay.”

Oh, heck, yeah, Feng Shui principles apply to ANY space, big or small, energy is energy (!) and I LOOOOOOOOOVE these clients, so, of course--Yes I Can!

Plus, I hear there’s a big sporting event coming up next month--basketball, is it? This may give you some ideas for your own space!

We met with Don, a HUGE UFC fan (one of his sons is a fighter) and we took…

BEFORE PICS:

Picture
Pool Room Challenges:
  • Work with the autographed mat
  • Bucky Badger light--he is not a WI fan :)
  • Two tone paint color creates a chopped up, low energy feeling
  • Memento Clutter
  • Carpeting and narrow tile strip line causes you to have “choose” where to walk
Picture
Picture
TV Room Challenges:
  • Paint colors are low energy
  • TV Too Small!!!! (haha, just kidding)
  • Lack of FUN
  • Lack of furniture to create the “campfire effect”
  • Empty feeling
  • Carpet worn and a little sad
Picture
Picture
Bar Area Challenges:
  • Pointy chandeliers hanging over nothing make you feel like you have to “duck”
  • “Weak” lighting over the bar
  • Inconsistent lighting--Darker on one side of the room than the other
  • Low energy paint color
  • Room feels too big

These 3 rooms all connect so there needs to be a unified feeling.

This is a GORGEOUS, big open space with so much potential!

After Pics:
Picture
Pool Room Upgrades:
  • Replaced the carpeting with matching tile to create a uniform floor
  • Painted the walls and ceiling with high energy colors to compliment “the mat”
  • Replaced the pool table light with a gorgeous billiard light
  • Curated and arranged mementos--firefighter items from Grandpa, Son’s UFC items, Football mementos and family pictures
Picture
TV Room Enhancements:
  • Replaced carpeting with a mossy, plush option
  • Added a swivel chair in a fun fabric to complete the room
  • Swapped out small fabric ottoman for a coffee table that you can use for drinks, snacks or putting your feet up
  • Added antique posters to spice up the space
  • Painted the walls a fun Fresh Olive color
  • Added touches of red for a bit of fire energy
Picture
Picture
Picture
Bar Area Improvements:
  • Used one of Don’s favorite photos to create a custom wallpaper mural for the entire room--the “Octagon” is centered over the shuffle board table and the cheering crowd goes all the way around the rest of the room--this mural was THE BIG CHI UPPER for the entire Lower Level
  • Treated the lower half of the walls with a Charred Olive “Luster Stone” for a bronze-y look
  • Balanced the lighting by removing the “spiky” ceiling lights for low profile options
  • Swapped out the lights over the bar for pendants with more substance
  • Added can lights over the shuffle board table on a dimmer switch
  • Added a whiskey barrel for additional table/gathering space
Picture
Also, the bathroom had to have an upgrade--(No before pics, sorry :)

This project was done on an accelerated timeline for a big party that was planned 2 months out--WHAAAAAA????

The project was complete and their party was outstanding--they are so happy with the results.

But more than that--now they have a space that they WANT to use and find themselves downstairs watching movies, hanging out and enjoying each other.

What a fun and fabulous transformation!

Lots of Love,
XOXO

An EASY Feng Shui Cure

2/13/2020

Hello Beautiful!

I had the AMAZING opportunity to work with Della this week on a Feng Shui project. Della is an Operation Fresh Start student (about to graduate--WOOHOO!) and an aspiring Interior Designer. Her mentor, Jody, is a past client of mine (I am so lucky to have such amazing people in my circle) and connected us for a meeting which blossomed into this fun afternoon of hanging mirrors together--
Picture

Mirrors are a Feng Shui Cure for MANY imbalances
Many homes have an overabundance of EARTH energy, and while Earth Energy is grounding and stable, too much of it can leave you feeling “stuck in the mud” and unable to move forward in life.

Mirrors represent Water Energy and they help by adding FLOW to spaces that feel stuck and dark.

For this project--Leah wanted a big upgrade to her empty and dark family room. It has rough wooden paneling and was painted beige with beams (purely “decoration”) running across the ceiling creating lots of downward, divisive energy.
We made A LOT of changes (paint, flooring, furniture, lighting AND took the beams down), which I will highlight in another post, but today I want to focus on the mirror wall that went in across from the sliding door.

7 STEPS to create a stunning mirror collage:

  • Find mirrors! We did some mega-thrifting to find these treasures. We were specifically looking for different sizes, shapes, emphasizing round and oval mirrors to balance the wood paneling and the vertical “stripes” you see in the paneling.

  • Measure THE WALL space where the mirrors will go. In this case the space above the sofa.

  • Re-create with two tape measures (vertical and horizontal) the same space on the floor.
Picture
  • Arrange the mirrors on the floor within the space--balance size, shape and go for FLOW!

  • VERY IMPORTANT! Take pictures of the arrangement on the floor for reference

  • (And this is where it gets tricky…) Start Hanging(!!!!!)--In this arrangement, we started with the round metal Chinese “coin” mirror and the white diamond mirror because they were exactly in the center. Then we worked on the left side and finished with the rest. Once we got the center two mirrors hung up, we did not measure, just used our photos and our spidey senses to tell us what felt the best. We only omitted one mirror on the wall from the floor “plan”--it just seemed like too much.
Picture
  • Celebrate! (Della and I had a High-Five and took pictures :)
Picture
Even Leah’s Cat, Emmy, made another appearance--purrrrrring throughout the entire project!
This wall FACES the sliding door so the mirrors will double the light, bounce it around to create a BIG uplift in energy. Notice, too, that you can see the (newly added) ceiling light doubled in the mirror.

This Family Room HAPPENS to be in the Wealth Corner of Leah’s home--excited to see abundance pouring in for her and her family!

BIG THANKS to Della and Operation Fresh Start for this opportunity--Della was wonderful to work with.

More pictures of this space coming SOOOOOOON--what an exciting project!!!!

Lots of Love,
XOXO

Too Much Wood--Feng Shui Element

2/5/2020

Hello Beautiful!

How is your week going?

We are planning a quick trip to see 4 of our grandbabies this weekend--they’re so BUSY that I can rarely get a picture of them all together, but here is a quick pic of Callum (15 mos.) practicing his selfie skills--can’t wait to see them all!
Picture
So many people ask me about one of the most basic Feng Shui Tools--the balance of the elements--it’s SUCH an important key in creating a beautiful feeling space--

There are 5 Elements in Feng Shui:
  • Fire
  • Earth
  • Metal
  • Water
  • Wood

When they are all in balance, it feels wonderful, the vibes are GOOD and you never want to leave the space.

You can instantly feel when the elements are in harmony or when one or more of them have gotten out of balance.

Today let’s focus on the element of WOOD:

The WOOD Element is represented by:

  • The green color spectrum
  • Things made of Wood
  • Flowers, plants
  • Vertical beams, vertical stripes
  • Images of flowers and plants
  • Columnar Shapes

Examples of Too Much Wood in a space:
Picture
  • Wood paneling on the walls and ceiling
  • Wooden Shelves
  • Wooden Furniture
Picture
  • Wood paneling on the walls, ceiling AND FLOOR
  • Vertical shape (made of stone but look at the shape--like a tree)
  • Wooden Furniture--YIKES--look at the coffee table!

The above rooms may have won design awards, but from a Feng Shui perspective, they are out of balance and if you were to live in these spaces you might feel:

  • RIGID, like a tree--feeling planted, dug in.
  • Resentful
  • Closed to new ideas
  • Impatient
  • Stressed

When Wood is in balance in your space (as in this client’s home):
Picture
You feel--
  • Resilient
  • Patient
  • Kind
  • Positive

So, check out your home or office, how do the rooms feel, in general, do you have wood elements in your space AND how do they make you feel?

Notice the element of wood--do you have too much, too little, or does it feel just right?

There are always “corrections” that can be made in a space to balance the elements--when I work with clients to harmonize, balance and upgrade a space, I am always aware of these foundational principles and use very specific design “remedies” in the form of paint color, art, fabric choices, furniture, space planning, flooring, and art to correct or cure the energy of a space that has gotten out of balance.

I will be highlighting the other elements in future posts, so keep an eye out :)

And, if you would like to have a conversation about working together, just send me an email and I will be in touch as soon as possible.

Lots of Love,
XOXO
