In the March issue of Oprah Magazine, Peter Walsh, the Australian-born organizer contributed to this article: “10 Ways to Spiff Up Your Home...” I got super excited! BIG title on the front: DECLUTTER, 2015. I thought there were a couple of good tips, what to do with your mail, ideas about surface clutter. However, I respectfully DISAGREE with tip #4!!! He totally grabbed me with this: “I’m guessing your front hall closet is one of your black holes of clutter…”, Yes! It’s often a hotspot for clients of mine! And I’m still with him as he continues with instructions for weeding through the closet, choosing to keep the only the coats you wear...good, good...I am ALL FOR clearing the front hall closet. And THEN he said, “Put your winter things in a plastic bin or vacuum bag and put them under the bed” (I’m starting to shudder). And now that you have space in the front closet, put the Goodwill box there (Uh-Oh!). and “make it the halfway point between you and an act of charity”...for the entire Spring season! #FengShuiFail In my opinion, both of these are dreadful bits of advice. Looking through a Feng Shui lens, the front door of every home represents the “mouth of chi.” It is how ALL of the energy flows into your home. If there is clutter or any stagnant energy at the front door it blocks EVERYTHING that flows in, particularly career energy! And for most of us, career energy translates into money and productivity; let’s keep that flowing! I would NOT recommend putting a box of junk near the front door. I do understand that you need to collect the cast-offs; my suggestion would be to fill the bag or the box and IMMEDIATELY put it in your car and IMMEDIATELY take it to the donation center. There is probably one on your regular driving route. They’re usually very conveniently placed and it takes about 10 extra minutes to pull in. Time yourself! Just CLOSE THE CIRCLE, it’s what will translate to you feeling better in no time flat. And my second “Oh-No!” was the advice to store stuff under the bed. Stagnant energy under the bed interferes with sleep and intimacy, try it and see for yourself! Take everything out, move the bed and wash or vacuum underneath. Sort through those long-lost, dust bunny items, find other homes for the keepers and take away the rest (see previous paragraph). Then, notice how you feel...sweet dreams! Contact me if you want to increase the flow at your front door or anywhere in your home. We will remove stagnant energy first, then enhance and balance the space to create a home and life you love!
