Has this ever happened to you? One small thing happens (like buying a new desk) and then it SNOWBALLS into something really huge (like MOVING to a new apartment)? A few months ago my office looked like this: It was beautiful AND I NEVER worked in there. In fact, I NEVER even went in the room except to get it ready for guests. The position of the desk was not right for me to feel energetic while working, so, I always worked at the dining room table. Once I really noticed what was going on (Feng Shui Lesson coming...) I moved my desk to a more dynamic position in the room. That was the beginning. I began using the room for work. And as I spent more time in my office, I started feeling the need for furniture with a more polished look and feel. Don’t get me wrong, the other desk is a GORGEOUS antique perfectly beautiful in every way but no longer a match for me. (I was only babysitting it for a friend anyway--thanks, Laurie!) So, I did some meditating on what WOULD be the desk of my dreams… And, then, this bookshelf replaced the antique "shabby chic" spool shelf that held my books and office supplies... Now, I was IN BUSINESS--feeling very snappy and productive.
This could be the end of the story but it’s only the beginning… The apartment wall to wall carpeting wasn’t so great and we asked about replacing it with bamboo flooring. “Yes, the management said, and we’ll pay for the installation…” Ok, EXCITING(!), but then we couldn’t get Hot Water out of the kitchen faucet and they could NOT seem to fix it. And, some sort of bearing was going out (remember Bob, lovely husband + Ace mechanic?) on a generator right outside of our window--LOUD intermittent growling noises. And, some new tenants moved in above us with (a herd of) elephants. And then, we started looking… It took only one visit to the apartment complex around the corner and WE WERE MOVING--March 1, in case you’re keeping track… In the new place we will have a pool, a fitness center, a path to a big city park for hiking and cross country skiing, glass french doors on my office (ooooooo, lala) a fireplace, a view of the sunrise, the park and countryside. No nearby busy road traffic, A wider, more gracious entry hall into our place--Feng Shui upgrade--more room for the good stuff to flow in! A bigger kitchen with HOT WATER :) A whirlpool tub in the Master Bedroom ALL of these upgrades followed directly on the heels of my office uplevel. You just NEVER KNOW what will happen. One moment I’m moving my desk 5 feet and not long after I’m packing boxes to move. Here’s the Feng Shui take away… Energy Happens and when we shift physical objects, the energy changes and there are RESULTS. Then it’s our job to notice and expand accordingly. Easier said than done, I know, because I did my fair share of digging in--and I see it happening with my clients all the time. It sounds so easy go with the flow--enjoy the ride. But we all know that meltdowns, kicking and/or screaming often accompany significant personal growth! And may even be NECESSARY(!!!!!!!) to create space for expansion. Our homes and our possessions hold a lot of energy. We are in relationship to every little thing that we own. So if our STUFF is stagnant or chaotic, it may be holding us back from what our souls are REALLY craving. What’s your soul really craving? Consider that your home and office could support your dreams and make space for a life you really love. Comment in the box below--I would love to hear from you! Lots of love, XOXO Jane

So neat to read your decision to move to PH -- I would have known it was you stating the reasons even if this wasn't your blog! I think I know the colors already that will grace your walls next door. Once you get moved in to PH you can put those words that described the values surrounding your new location into the PH website. See you soon!

As a merchandiser, this post rings so true! Some times I want to kick and scream in search of a "solution" but it almost always presents itself when I force myself to shift something - an object, furniture. And it feels so good when it feels right! Thank you Jane :)

Yes, it's really true, Matt, I've seen it over and over! And, of course, experienced it myself!!!! Nothing like a little dose of my own medicine--I support clients all the time through this type of upleveling and it was AMAZING to go through it myself :)
