5 Things to Consider as You Create a New Home

Here we are--all moved in and in the process of measuring, picking fabric and having fun hanging art. So far, so good! I’ll keep you posted...

And, if you’ve moved recently, or even if you haven’t and are wanting to take a fresh look at your space...consider these 5 important opportunities to enhance your home:

​Leave Clutter at the Door
Even if you boxed it up and moved it in, hopefully, you can catch yourself before you unpack it and put it away! A move is a prime opportunity to let go of that which holds you back and drags you down. Get the donation box(es) ready and be ruthless, your sanity and spirit depends on it!

Clutter can be a sneaky little monster sucking your energy and keeping you from stepping into your awesomeness. Let it GO! Send it out to the universe to charm someone else. You never know how someone’s life will be lifted by your “treasures”.

A Landing Pad
This is CRITICAL to arriving home--Ideally, create a shelf, small chest, or designate counter space within A FEW STEPS of your front door for  bags, keys, mail, recycling. This area may also include a spot for phone charging--our new apartment has outlets with USB ports built-in--super COOL! Be intentional about this, especially during a move-- amidst the chaos it’s so easy to misplace things. Do yourself a favor, get ahead of the game, don’t waste your time searching for lost items!

The Couch
Placing and choosing your couch is one of the most important tasks of your move in. A couch represents rest, relaxation, connection, and rejuvenation. It’s significance is considerable! It should feel supportive, comfy, and have large enough arms so that you can curl up in the corner and have a conversation or read a good book. Choose one in a delicious color and soft fabric because IT  MATTERS! Get the couch in place and then go put your feet up--you deserve it!

Lighting
The impact of lighting cannot be underestimated. Table lamps and floor lamps can create a soft glow. Good lighting can create warmth, facilitate reading, connection, warmth, and can cause us to sit and relax longer. Well placed light in the living room creates a campfire around which to gather--more time with your tribe--YAY!!!! Lighting can make or break a room--play around with placement until you shimmer.

Art
There are zillions of art pieces in the world. What you choose to hang on your wall also MATTERS! Typically art is chosen for it’s aesthetic appeal--color, size, subject matter. When I work with clients to choose art, I also consider the message of the art, because, let’s face it, you buy it, hang it, and there it stays in your space for years and years and years.

For example, If you want to attract a relationship into your life and the art over your bed depicts a buck elk lying alone in the snow (true example) then the message, over and over, and all night long is…”I’m alone and out in the cold.” Not very conducive to inviting in a warm partner, is it?  

Art is powerful; it’s message has the capability to pull us forward into the future...a fun idea to consider as you set out to invest in your next piece of art!
