Hello Beautiful!I celebrated my 60th(!!!) birthday a few weeks ago--Bob (lovely husband) and I went to New Orleans for some sun, music, dancing, and good food...WOW, did we have FUN! And, to continue the fun, I was invited to the Land’s End Corporate Headquarters for a “Spring into Decluttering” Event… A big welcome to everyone who attended--a FUN group of go-getters--we are so happy you’ve joined us! Today we’re going S-I-M-P-L-E. ‘Cuzzzzz--who’s got time for complicated? Here are 3 habits that (IF you can make them a habit) will DRAMATICALLY lift the chi of your home (and your life): 1. Make Your Bed--I know, duh, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t and how little effort it takes--I timed myself this morning--47 seconds. Making your bed sets the tone for your day. It says, “Someone valuable lives here.” and if you’ve got a family, it becomes part of the culture of your household. 2. Attend to the Mail--A lot of our mail comes digitally these days, but the US Postal Service is still slogging along delivering paper mail to our mailboxes every single day. A very large percentage of it is junk, have you noticed? So, take the 1-2 minutes after picking up your mail and walk straight to your recycle bin. Sort through and recycle the junk and put the keepers where they belong (bill pay or take action pile). This is a game changer--taking this few moments as you walk in the door to put paper in its place. VOILA! No more paper heaps on the countertop! Bonus: Make a plan/place for other incoming streams: kids’ school papers, work papers, pet items and other categories of Stuff. Double Bonus: Digitize your bills--less work for you, less paper, fewer checks, less gas to deliver it to you, saves time too:) PS: This is the #1 challenge our clients have→ Too Much Paper! Give this a go, it’s a great place to start--message us if you need support. 3. The Ten Minute Clean-Up--Here’s how this works: Set the timer for 10 minutes, turn off all screens, make a game of it and GO! Put things away, gather up papers, attend to laundry, dishes, whatever is out of place...if you and your family make this a DAILY habit, you will NOT BELIEVE what a difference it makes. No matter how many people live in your home--if everyone is hustling for 10 minutes, SO MUCH can happen--try it and see! Note: You may have to teach little ones this life-skill but it is totally worth the time investment--in one week (or less!) you will feel the AHHHMAZING effects of this habit. Hint: Some families practice this habit before or after supper--it’s a wonderful way to end the day! These habits are SIMPLE and may seem mundane but sometimes making a gorgeous life is not glamorous work. It involves repetition, and humility, hard work... But it yields Joy. Beauty. Order. Balance. I would SO LOVE to hear how this goes for you--send me an email with your wins/challenges this week... Lots of Love, XOXO If you have a friend who would LOVE to read this, forward here
