People often assume Feng Shui starts with moving furniture.
Or choosing colors.
Or buying something beautiful for a room.
But after doing this work for many years, I can tell you the real starting point of almost every transformation is something much simpler.
Editing.
Before the magic... comes the letting go.
Before the design... comes the clearing.
Before the beauty… comes the space.

Why Editing Comes First
Imagine trying to design a beautiful room that already feels full.
You add a new chair.
You move a lamp.
You buy a gorgeous rug.
And yet… something still feels off.
That’s because energy needs space to move.
When a home becomes layered with objects that are outdated, unused, or emotionally heavy, the energy of the space can’t breathe.
And when energy can’t breathe…
Neither can we.
Editing is the act of gently asking:
Does this still belong in the life I’m living now?
Not everything does.
And that’s okay.
Editing Is Not About Deprivation
One of the biggest misconceptions about clutter clearing is that it means getting rid of everything.
It doesn’t.
Feng Shui is not about stark minimalism or living in an empty house.
It’s about curation.
Keeping the objects that:
• feel beautiful to you
• support your life now
• hold joyful memories
• contribute to the energy of the room
And releasing the rest.
Think of it less like purging…
And more like curating a beautiful space.
You’re choosing what truly belongs.
What adds beauty.
What supports the life you’re living now.
When the unnecessary pieces fall away, the whole room begins to shine.
A Simple Editing Question
Here’s a question I ask clients all the time:
“If this item disappeared tomorrow, would you purchase it again?”
If the answer is no…
That’s very helpful information.
Your home is telling you something.
A Tiny Feng Shui Challenge
This week, try editing one small space.
Just one.
A nightstand.
A bathroom counter.
The corner of a desk.
Remove everything.
Then only place back the items that feel intentional and supportive.
You might be surprised how peaceful that tiny area suddenly feels.
Small edits can shift the energy of an entire room.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Next time we’re going to talk about something many people experience during clutter clearing but rarely talk about openly:
Emotions!
Because sometimes the hardest part of letting go isn’t the object…
It’s the story attached to it.
