Dear Human, Your House Is Normal

Happy Day Everyone!

After almost two decades of walking through people's homes, I've learned something important:

Almost everyone thinks they're the only one.

The only one with the pile.

The chair.

The box.

The drawer.

The thing they keep meaning to deal with.

Trust me—you are not.

In fact, there are a handful of things I see so often that they should practically come with the house.

And while Feng Shui is all about creating supportive, vibrant energy, there are a few little habits that don't send me into a panic.

Let's have some fun...

The Decorative Chair No Human Has Sat In Since 2018

You know the one.

It lives quietly in the bedroom, faithfully holding a few shirts, two pairs of shorts and perhaps a bathrobe.

Technically, it's a chair.

Functionally, it's a clothing valet that nobody officially hired.

Would I prefer that every piece of furniture serve its intended purpose?

Sure.

Am I shocked that this chair exists?

Not even a little.

The "I'll Donate This Someday" Box

This box always starts with the best of intentions.

Someone makes a brave decluttering decision.

The items are gathered.

The box is packed.

The angels sing.

And then...

The box settles into its new permanent home in the garage, basement, mudroom, or trunk of the car.

The energy isn't bad.

It's just unfinished.

Every incomplete task takes up a tiny bit of energetic bandwidth.

The good news?

Once that box finally leaves, people often feel an immediate sense of relief that's wildly disproportionate to the size of the task.

That's the magic of closing the circle.

What Feng Shui Really Cares About

Feng Shui isn't asking for perfection.

It isn't grading your closets.

It isn't judging your cord drawer (or bin :)

It's simply asking:

"Does your home support the life you're trying to create?"

That's it.

So if you notice one little thing that's been asking for attention, give it five minutes this weekend.

Not because you've done something wrong.

Because every small act of completion creates movement.

And movement creates energy.

No shame. We're simply negotiating with the energy.

Because that's what happens when your home stops working against you and starts working for you.
