April: Linen Closet Love

I have to be honest, this has been kind of a rough week for me, my mom had knee replacement surgery at 87 yo (came through like a trooper), AND we moved her to a new apartment while she’s in the rehab facility getting her spunk back.

But...I got to see the grandbabies this week--here they are shopping together, what little cuties!

In other news, I have your April Organizing Project ready to go…
~A Beautifully Organized Linen Closet~
Any chance you’ve got this going on?
Picture
  • Have you ever bought new linens because you couldn’t remember what you already own?
  • When you buy new linens, do the old ones just get pushed to the back?
  • Do towels and sheets fall down on your head when you open the door?
  • Is the whole subject of the linen closet a big, fat, UGGGGHHHHHH?

Set yourself up for success…
  • Gather boxes or large sturdy garbage bags to collect the cast-offs--there are people in your community who would LOVE these “old” items!
  • Block out 1-2 hours
  • Put up the “Gone Fishin” sign

Annnnnnd, go!
  • Take all the linens out of the closet, yep, the scrunched up pillowcases WAY in the back!
  • Wipe out the shelves with something fresh: A  lavender essential oil concoction? Thieves Cleaner?
  • Let go of any worn, torn & stained towels or bedding
  • Let go of items you NEVER use.
  • Consider paring down your bedding “collection” to 2-3 sets per bed--one set on the bed, the other in the closet :)
  • Check out the old towels that you’re saving “just in case”. You might need a few, but not dozens!
  • Check over the blankets and quilts--make sure they’re all in good condition and are useful to your current life.
  • You might be making a list of things you need along the way!
  • Store like with like--towels together, bedding together (separate by season, by bed size, by family member...whatever makes sense to you.)
  • Put things back so that the items you need are front and center and the specialty items like holiday towels or tablecloths are on the top shelf.
  • Zipper cases like these work great for memento linens (in case you’re keeping baby quilts on the very top shelf) and allow items to breathe without getting musty.
  • Take away the donations--as in put them in your car and drive to the nearest drop off and Hand Them Over.
  • Celebrate!!!! It it time for a walk in the sun? A hot mug of green tea with a few nibbles of dark chocolate? Dance Party? Do something to mark your success.
Picture
We took 5 large bags of unused and worn items out of this little closet and sent them to donation.

Yes, we labeled the shelves so the whole family knows where things go--if you want the teenagers to help, make it easy for them! We added acrylic dividers to keep things in their place--but forgot the pic:(

This closet is functional, and is a HUGE improvement over its original condition--you can find things + you can open the door without fear of an avalanche!

Please, please, please send me your before and after pics! I would love send you a celebratory message!!!!!

And if you need/want a hand with ANY of your organizing projects, reply to this email, we would love to connect.

Lots of Love
XOXO

9 Simple Chi Uppers + DreamBank Event!

Tennessee was FANTASTIC! Bob and I had 9 days of be-bopping around, hiking the Smokies, chasing waterfalls and checking out Nashville and Chattanooga. It was Sunny! And Tennessee is full of moss and water and BIG rocks.

It got me thinking...there are certain items and experiences that are chi uppers for just about everyone!

And even though we are all unique, in many ways we are all the same.

If you want to increase your chi (personal energy) through Feng Shui, below is my list of 9 simple ways to achieve that:

9 Simple Ways to Lift Your Chi

  1. Water--You don’t have to go all the way to Tennessee to see waterfalls! Visit a local stream or lake, take a long bath, drink more water or add water chi to your home by including a water feature at the front door.
  2.  Mirrors--Mirrors are the “aspirin” of Feng Shui, they are an easy cure for a stuck spot in your home, they double your space, adding abundance, and they also bounce light around. They are water energy and, usually, the more, the better!
  3.  Stones and Crystals--The ore given up by the earth is precious. Each type of stone or crystal holds it’s own properties and can adjust your chi dramatically. I can support you to choose stones that will give a boost to those areas of your life that need more chi through working with stones. (EX: Rose Quartz for love and romance energy.)
  4. Light--The sun is our most important source of energy. Get out there and bask for a few minutes whenever you can. In your home, look for areas where you can increase the natural light or place good quality lighting in spots that need more.
  5.  Colors--Colors are powerful! Each color has it’s own unique vibration. Yellow has the highest frequency, so the stuck spaces like closets, basements, garages, attics often benefit greatly from a high energy color like Benjamin Moore’s “hibiscus” color. In Feng Shui, colors also correspond to the elements. They are a FABULOUS way to energize and balance your space to raise your vibration, too!
  6. Music--The sounds we surround ourselves with can elevate our moods in a snap. Dance party, anyone?
  7.  Art--A gorgeous piece of art can crack your heart WIDE OPEN. Visit the art museum and watch your personal energy as you take in each piece. Notice what moves you, elevates you or drags you down. Take that same art walk through your own home. Could some tweaks in your own “art department” give you a lift every single day?
  8. Flowers--Buy yourself a beautiful bouquet--you deserve it! Fresh flowers are a gorgeous way to elevate the chi in your home.
  9.  Plants--Take a survey of your house plants. Make sure they are vibrant and full of life. Do NOT become a plant hospital!!!! Spindly, leggy or droopy plants have got to go!
